Who we are

Judy Carole Kauffmann

Judy lived overseas for twenty two years running her own property business. She returned to England in 2001 and volunteered at Sue Ryder hospice and has a certificate in Interpersonal Skills for Volunteers from the University of Wales, Lampeter. Judy passed an Open University Course in Death, Dying and Bereavement and then became the Registered Manager of a Domiciliary Care Agency in Hampshire which she ran for two years achieving her NVQ4 in Care Management.

Judy is passionate about caring for people during their end of life journey and empathising with those left behind, and her training and writings reflect this ethos. In the areas of Dementia Care and End of Life, Judy not only trains people to achieve the highest level of non medical care, but is also available to mentor carers, empowering them to take the fear out of end of life. She is able to show them how love comes down to three very simple ingredients of care that they can all achieve.

Judy is a volunteer with Samaritans and lives in Hampshire with her partner and her son.

Mary Jordan

Mary Jordan is author of “The Essential Carer’s Guide” (Hammersmith Press, 2006) and writes regularly for Nursing and Carer’s journals. Her considerable experience is borne both from the care of relatives and friends and of the NHS systems. Her experience includes working for the NHS in a management role, teaching General Practice Managers about General Practice Management and writing for the medical press

Her personal experience of caring within the home is augmented by an understanding and familiarity with NHS ‘systems’, of how hospitals and Doctors’ surgeries work and of the routine and standards within Care and Nursing Homes.

Mary’s experience as a non professional carer has led her to empathise with others in similar circumstances. She has joined ELM as an Associate Director because she and Judy Carole believe that their roles are complementary, and that together they can make a difference to the lives of  carers, regardless of their status.

Testimonials

"I was fortunate enough to be put in contact with Judy when my mother was first diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. She made a real bond with my mother, who is a very private person, but made her feel that she was still an important member of the family and valued.

Judy is a very giving person and was very thoughtful and caring towards my mother, I feel that she dealt with any situation in a very sensible and positive manner. I never felt the slightest qualm in leaving them together all day knowing that my mother was much more positive and happy by the end of a session with her.

I would not hesitate to recommend Judy in any caring environment. Her positive and sensitive attitude and general good sense always shine through."
