End of Life Friends

Judy Carole is an End of Life Friend (ELF) and Companion, and is available to the elderly or anyone facing a life threatening illness. She will also be training others to work with her.

Judy, or a representative from ELF, can help to relieve the strain on families by stepping in when they are geographically or emotionally unable to cope. End of Life Friends can come to the house, hospital, nursing or residential home and are available for occasional overnight stays, shopping, light cooking and have an empathetic ear whenever needed. They can also help with any practicalities that arise.

End of Life Friends come from all walks of life. There are no barriers to age, sex, religion, or colour, and no academic qualifications are required. The only prerequisite is that they must undertake the ELM Palliative Care Training Course and must abide by the ELM rules and regulations.

They must have a CRB check, be mobile, and be able to speak fluently the language of the person they are befriending, and must not have suffered any bereavement in the past two years.
